A proper wheel alignment is one of the highest-ROI maintenance steps you can take to reduce operating costs and extend the life of your equipment. Whether you’re running a full fleet or managing the day-to-day demands of a one-truck operation, alignment should be a core part of your preventive-maintenance strategy.

According to ATRI’s operational cost data, fuel and tires together typically account for roughly 20–25% of a fleet’s total marginal operating cost. That’s a massive portion of your budget and misalignment directly attacks both categories. A truck that’s even slightly out of alignment will drag, scrub, and prematurely wear the tread off your tires while forcing the engine to work harder and burn more fuel. Left unchecked, this becomes thousands of dollars in avoidable waste.

Industry experience shows that a majority of commercial trucks on the road have some degree of misalignment at any given time. The drive axle(s) are typically the largest contributors to premature steer and drive tire wear and also have a measurable impact on fuel consumption. Fleets that actively manage tire inflation, track wear patterns, match tread depths, and maintain proper alignment consistently report significant improvements in tire and fuel performance.

We’ve documented customer cases where a disciplined tire program combined with proper alignment delivered up to 60% more tire life and double-digit reductions in fuel spend, depending on the overall maintenance practices in place.

When isolating alignment alone, the industry benchmark is clear.

TMC is the maintenance and engineering branch of the American Trucking Associations (ATA).

TMC Recommended Practice RP 642 shows that adding total truck alignment to a preventive-maintenance cycle can deliver a 2% improvement in fuel economy, and 20–30% increase in tire life.

These numbers alone can save a single truck hundreds and in many duty cycles over a thousand dollars per year. For fleets, the annual impact quickly becomes substantial.

If you want to capture deeper gains the 14–15% fuel improvements and 50–60% tire life extensions seen in top-performing fleets visit our resource page to learn how operator behavior, inflation control, tire matching, and alignment work together to unlock the full savings potential.

How Often Should You Align Your Truck?

Industry guidance shows that a post break-in alignment check should be performed at about 15,000-30,000 miles (or within the first 3-months) of service because bushings, mounts and suspension components settle and shifting may occur. Also, any time new steer tires are installed or suspension/axle components are replaced, an alignment check is strongly recommended.

After this initial alignment, most heavy-duty tractors should be aligned at about 100,000 miles, or at least annually depending on duty cycle and a check every 6-12 months helps ensure alignment stays within specification and your tire & fuel savings stay on track.

We recommend scheduling your initial alignment with us, followed by a 6-month check to lock in the benefits and catch any drift before it starts costing you downtime.

Diagnosing Tire Wear and Drivability Issues.

When your truck isn’t driving the way it should, every mile becomes harder on your equipment and more expensive for your business. Our alignment service is designed to correct the most common and costly drivability issues, including right pull, drift, road wander, vibration, and irregular tire wear, so your truck runs straighter, smoother, and more efficiently.

A right pull or drift is often the result of drive-axle misalignment, which increases fuel burn and accelerates tire wear. Road wander typically points to incorrect toe settings or worn steering components, making the truck difficult and tiring to control. And while vibrations are rarely caused by alignment alone, they can indicate problems with tires, wheels, hubs, or driveline components issues that left unchecked can lead to costly failures. We don’t just align your truck; we help you find the real cause.

If you’re experiencing shaky steering, vibration, or uneven tire wear, those are warning signs you shouldn’t ignore. Our team will diagnose the issue, correct the alignment, and show you exactly what’s happening so you can get ahead of bigger, more expensive problems.

Your truck should work for you not against you. Let us help you get it driving straight, safe, and efficient again.

OTR Trucks

When it comes to OTR trucking, MPG, tire life, driver comfort, and uptime are what keep revenue flowing. Whether you run a full fleet or operate your own truck, staying on the road and staying profitable comes down to how quickly you can get back behind the wheel.

If you’re constantly correcting the wheel to fight wander, your tires aren’t lasting as long as they should, or your fuel cost keeps climbing, alignment is often the hidden culprit. But traditional shop alignments create downtime that most drivers and fleets simply can’t afford.

That’s where Enlighten Mobile Alignments comes in.

We bring professional, laser-accurate commercial truck alignment directly to you no shop delays, no lost productivity. All we need is a flat surface, and in just a few hours your truck is aligned, optimized, and ready to hit the road with improved fuel economy, better tire wear, and smoother handling.

Stay comfortable, stay efficient, and stay earning with alignment service that comes to you.

Trailers

Proper trailer axle and wheel alignment plays a huge role in protecting tire life, and that matters more today than ever. Modern trailers are running longer distances, carrying heavier loads, and many fleets are transitioning to wide-base single tires for fuel savings and reduced weight. While these tires offer real efficiency benefits, they’re also far less forgiving—even minor alignment errors can cause rapid, uneven, and extremely costly wear.

A trailer that’s just a fraction of an inch out of track can begin to scrub tread with every mile, generating unnecessary heat, increasing rolling resistance, and cutting tire life dramatically short. That misalignment also works against your fuel budget. Any sideways drag forces the tractor to pull harder, reducing MPG and undermining the fuel savings you invested in with newer tires or aerodynamic equipment.

When both the tractor and trailer are aligned as a system, the benefits are immediate and measurable:

Cleaner, straighter tracking

Reduced rolling resistance

Better fuel economy

Cooler-running tires under load

Longer, more predictable tire life

Less stress on suspension components

This is especially critical for fleets running regional, long-haul, distribution, or high-cube operations, where consistent alignment translates directly to real savings.

Straight Trucks

Straight trucks take a beating. They’re in tight alleys, crowded city streets, construction sites, and uneven yards all day long. They hop curbs, squeeze past obstacles, and absorb the constant pounding that comes with delivery, service, and job-site work. It’s unavoidable the work demands it. But all that abuse slowly knocks the truck out of alignment, and the symptoms start stacking up fast: uneven tire wear, extra fuel burn, harder steering, and a truck that simply doesn’t track the way it used to. The problem? Taking a straight truck out of service for hours at a shop means lost productivity. That’s exactly why Enlighten Mobile Alignments exists. We handle the alignment where the truck sits no shop visit, no logistics hassle, no pulling a driver off a route. Give us a flat spot to work, and a few hours later the truck is aligned, inspected, and ready to go right back to work. A straight truck earns only when it’s moving. EMA keeps your truck productive while giving it the alignment attention it needs to stay safe, efficient, and cost-effective for the long run.

Light-Medium duty vans and trucks

Vans and light- to medium-duty trucks are some of the most overlooked vehicles when it comes to alignment. They may not be hauling heavy loads every day, but that doesn’t mean they’re safe from alignment issues. In fact, these vehicles are more prone to misalignment because of frequent turning, constant stop-and-go driving, uneven job-site surfaces, curb impacts, and tight city maneuvering.

Industry recommendations suggest aligning light- and medium-duty vehicles every 6,000 to15,000 miles, far more often than most operators realize. Even a single wheel that’s slightly out of spec can drag down fuel efficiency, cause noticeable handling issues, and lead to premature tire wear costing you money long before the problem becomes obvious.

Whether you maintain a service fleet or just want your personal van or truck driving at its best, Enlighten Mobile Alignments can handle it right where the vehicle sits. No downtime, no shop visit, and no scheduling headaches just fast, accurate alignment delivered directly to you.

Dump Trucks

Dump trucks endure some of the most punishing conditions of any commercial vehicle. Every day they’re hauling heavy loads, backing into tight spaces, maneuvering through uneven job sites, and traveling between on-road and off-road environments. All of that stress adds up fast. The combination of constant weight changes, loaded vs. unloaded ride height differences, deep ruts, potholes, loose terrain, and rough access roads can quickly throw a dump truck’s suspension, steering geometry, and axles out of alignment. Unlike highway tractors, dump trucks rarely experience predictable, consistent conditions so alignment problems develop sooner and cause more noticeable handling issues.

Once alignment starts to drift, it creates a chain reaction! Tires begin wearing unevenly and prematurely. Steering becomes heavier and harder to control, fuel consumption climbs due to increased rolling resistance, drivers experience more fatigue, especially on long transfer hauls, suspension components absorb unnecessary stress. A misaligned dump truck doesn’t just cost money it becomes a daily frustration and a safety risk. Keeping these trucks aligned is essential to protecting your tire investment, minimizing fuel waste, and ensuring your equipment is performing at full capacity. Enlighten Mobile Alignments can bring alignment service directly to your yard or jobsite, eliminating downtime and keeping your trucks ready for the next load.
